Retrograde motion
Apparent backward movement of a planet through the zodiac as seen from Earth. The planet itself does not turn; this is due to speed differences.
What it means
Retrograde — apparent backward motion of a planet along the ecliptic. The planet does not actually turn around: this is how its path appears from the moving Earth when it overtakes it in orbit or vice versa. Mercury appears retrograde three times a year, Venus about once every 1.5 years, Mars roughly once every two years.
