Ecliptic
Plane of Earth's orbit. Planet positions are measured by longitude along it—from zero to 360 degrees.
What it means
Ecliptic — the apparent path of the Sun across the sky over a year, more precisely the plane of Earth's orbit. All longitudes in the chart are measured along it, and a zodiac sign is a thirty‑degree segment of the ecliptic. The inclination of the ecliptic to the celestial equator is involved in the calculation of the Ascendant, so the true ecliptic, corrected for nutation, is used.
