2 house: Money and resources

Resources and earnings

Houses

What I rely on and what I manage myself?

What it means

The second house concerns one's own: money, possessions, skills that are paid for, and the overall sense of ‘do I have enough’. It shows not income size but attitude to resources: how a person acquires, spends, and measures sufficiency.

How to read in your chart

See the planets in the second house and its ruler: they indicate how a person acquires their resources. Venus here points to pleasure from resources, Saturn to accounting and fear of loss, Jupiter to generous spending.

If the house is empty

A house without planets does not mean the theme is absent. It is read by the sign on its cusp and the ruler of that sign: where the ruler is placed, the theme goes. Empty houses in a chart are usually more than half – there are ten planets and twelve houses.

Why birth time is needed

Houses are built with the Placidus system from the time and place of birth. An error of four minutes in the time shifts the Ascendant by about a degree, and an error of an hour can move a planet into the neighbouring house. Without a known time the platform shows no houses at all, rather than inserting noon and producing a plausible but wrong chart.
