3 house: Communication and close circle

Exchange, speech, close circle

Houses

How do I learn new things and who do I talk to each day?

What it means

The third house covers close environment and exchange: neighbours, brothers and sisters, short trips, correspondence, everyday conversation. It is the house of familiar curiosity, where a person learns about the world in pieces, without building large theories.

How to read in your chart

See the planets in the third house and Mercury in the chart: together they describe speaking style and learning on the go. Tense aspects here often relate to relationships with siblings or a fear of speaking.

If the house is empty

A house without planets does not mean the theme is absent. It is read by the sign on its cusp and the ruler of that sign: where the ruler is placed, the theme goes. Empty houses in a chart are usually more than half – there are ten planets and twelve houses.

Why birth time is needed

Houses are built with the Placidus system from the time and place of birth. An error of four minutes in the time shifts the Ascendant by about a degree, and an error of an hour can move a planet into the neighbouring house. Without a known time the platform shows no houses at all, rather than inserting noon and producing a plausible but wrong chart.
