Family lineage in astrology: what repeats in family charts

Astrogenealogy compares natal charts of several generations of a family and looks for recurring patterns: the same degrees, signs and aspects in the grandmother, mother and you. The repetition does not predict destiny, but reveals a theme that the family lives through from generation to generation.

Family signature: degrees, signs, aspects

The main indicator of a lineage is the family degree: a zodiac point where the planets of three or more relatives are no more than two degrees apart. Additionally, the signs of the Sun, Moon and Ascendant and identical aspects are compared: for example, a hard Moon‑Saturn aspect present in three generations along the same line.

Planets as family roles

  • Sun: paternal line and how the family expects one to express oneself: will, pride, the right to be noticeable.
  • Moon: maternal line, caregiving habits and the emotional climate of the home that the child absorbs before words.
  • Saturn: ancestors, rules and duty: what the family considers obligatory, what it fears and what it passes on as a task.
  • Lunar Node: life path axis: South Node describes the familiar and inherited, North Node the direction in which one should grow.

Relatives' houses

Prenatal eclipse and Saros series

Prenatal eclipse – the last solar or lunar eclipse before birth. Eclipses repeat every 18 years and 11 days in Saros series: one series lasts more than a thousand years. If relatives' prenatal eclipses belong to the same series, it is a shared theme for them.

Births in parental cycles

Saturn returns to its position after about 29 years, Jupiter after about 12, the lunar nodes after about 18.6. A child born during a parent’s Saturn return arrives at a time when the parent is reassessing commitments and maturing themselves.

Hereditary influence according to Gauquelin

Michel Gauquelin in the 1960s compared tens of thousands of charts of parents and children and reported that the same planet at the Ascendant or Midheaven occurs in them more often than chance. The results are controversial: some replications confirmed them, others explained them by social causes. We show such coincidences only with precise timing and with this caveat.

If birth time is approximate

For grandmothers and great‑grandmothers the time is often unknown. In that case the Ascendant, Midheaven, houses and the Moon, if it changes sign within a day, are excluded from comparison: the signs and degrees of the slow planets, which shift hardly at all over a day, remain.

What the lineage analysis does not do

It does not predict illness, death or pregnancy and does not declare the repetition as a verdict. A family theme is a question worth noticing, not a script that must come true.

Ancestral analysis in the cabinet

In the MIRA cabinet you add relatives to the family tree back to great‑grandparents, and the platform automatically finds family aspects, repetitions, lines through mother and father, pre‑birth eclipses and parental cycles.
