Lilith

The suppressed: what a person does not accept in themselves and what breaks out around the rules

What it means

Lilith, or the Black Moon, describes what a person is used to not admitting in themselves: desires and reactions considered improper in their surroundings. Where Lilith stands, it is hard to act by the rules and hard to come to terms with oneself; once acknowledged, the same theme becomes a source of independence and honesty.

In balance

Accepting one’s awkward sides, independence from other people’s expectations

Out of balance

Shame, protest for its own sake, attraction to the forbidden

What this object is

about eight years and ten months around the circle, nine months in a sign

Lilith is not a body but a point of the Moon’s orbit: the apogee, where the Moon is farthest from the Earth. The apogee goes around the circle in about eight years and ten months. MIRA shows the mean Lilith, the mean apogee by Meeus’s formula referred to the true equinox of date; the true apogee swings around the mean one by up to thirty degrees and is not shown in the chart.

How to read in your chart

Look at the sign of Lilith for the form the suppressed takes, and at the house for the area of life. The platform does not compute aspects to Lilith: the point has no orb of its own, and we did not invent one.
